Hi again Rams fans Rob again with a new feature for the LA Rams UK site.
Each week now I’ll be doing a small feature on our up and coming opponent for our next game. I’ll be covering things like stand out player ‘the team’s current form’ Injuries and anything really I can dig up on them that’s relevant to the game.
Next up in our week 2 matchup is the Arizona Cardinals. Our first home game of the season.
The Cardinals this off season signed an old friend of ours in free agency one Sam Bradford. This was prompted with the announcement their veteran QB Carson Palmer was retiring. It was very much an off season of transition for the Cardinals which not only saw their QB retiring but also their head coach Bruce Arians.
In another blow for the team the Cardinals also released one of their best defensive players in Tyrann Mathieu who went on to join the Texans.
To replace their head coach Bruce Arians the Cardinals brought in the former defensive coordinator from the Panthers Steve Wilks. Wilks has also previously coached in Chicago and San Diego so it should be interesting to see what this new defensive minded coach in his first head coaching job brings to the team.
Other notable additions for the Cardinals this off season were Justin Pugh OG. And Andre Smith OT these guys give their offensive line a real boost and will help to protect Sam Bradford for them.
Some top players to watch out for this week for the Cardinals are David Johnson HB. Who is returning from a season ending injury which happened early on last season. Johnson was able to post numbers like 1,239 yards rushing and 16 touch downs in 2016 so the Cardinals will be looking for a return to form from him.
Larry Fitzgerald WR. The 14 year veteran has caught 109, 107, 109 passes in his last 3 years and continues to be their number one receiver. What you are watching right here is a future hall of fame player.
On the defence look for Chandler Jones to lead the pass rush. Jones had 17 sacks last season leading the NFL.
Patrick Peterson Is the Cardinals stand out cornerback. Expect Peterson to be covering our best WR (Cooks. Although you might not agree) J for most of the game. Peterson only had one interception last season but a large part of that was that teams rarely pass in his direction.
Final note from me on the Cardinals, is that this is a team in transition but still has a strong roster. Sam Bradford and the Cardinals had a poor showing in week one and will be looking to bounce back from a tough loss to the Redskins 24-6…..Also its probably worth bearing in mind that the Cardinals drafted QB Josh Rosen high in the first round of this year’s draft. If Sam Bradford and the Cardinals continue to struggle then don’t be surprised if you start to hear the words quarterback controversy starting to rumble out of Arizona.
Anyway my score prediction is Rams to win at home 33-10.
Thanks for taking the time to read this taster for our up and coming game.
Go Rams….Rob out
