Hi again Los Angeles Rams fans and welcome to this week’s game preview.
This week’s matchup sees us in Detroit against the Lions who currently sit bottom of their division with a 4-7 record. It’s easy to look at the Lions record this season and say things haven’t worked out the way new Lions head coach Matt Patricia would have liked. Patricia (former Cheatriots Defensive Coordinator) came to the Lions this offseason and steps up into his first head coaching job (which is no mean feat) With the Lions though what is worth bearing in mind is they have beaten teams like the Patriots and Panthers this season, so I think their record is more about inconsistency and on their day they have the talent to run with any team. The Lions also traded their leading receiver this season just a couple of weeks back (Golden Tate) for a third round pick next year to the Eagles, so maybe Patricia has a bit of a build in mind. Anyhoo on to this week’s game…
Players to watch out for this week
Matthew Stafford QB
My Take on Stafford is that the talent is there no doubt and the Lions must agree as they have paid the man. The problem could be now that the talent around him did take a hit when they traded away his favourite target wide receiver Golden Tate? Stafford has the arm and the accuracy though, so who becomes the new favourite target?
Could it be the guy underneath?
Kenny Golladay WR
Is only 24 years old and only in his second season. Golladay is a big target with great height and good hands, also for a big receiver he has very good speed too. With Tate gone and injuries to the receiver, corp expect this guy to see plenty of the ball especially if the Lions have to air it out later in the game.
LeGarrette Blount RB
Power runner is the first thing that comes to mind with this guy, very difficult to bring down and will also just run over defenders. Blount has two super bowl rings, one with Patriots and last year he got another with the Eagles so just a wealth of experience here. In the past teams have used him to complement a faster back with Blount getting the tough yards, but with injuries, Blount will be getting the lion’s share of the carries this week. (Lion’s share. See what it did there? lol…Anyway. )
Damon Harrison DT
Harrison is a big DT down there on the defensive line with the strength to help stuff the run, Harrison also has the power and agility to get after the QB. This 6 year veteran is one of the better DT in the league and will keep the interior of our offensive line busy all day.
Darius Slay CB
Slay is an outstanding cornerback in this league. No matter whom the Lions play Slay is always on their best wide receiver. Slay is a very well rounded cornerback who can tackle and cover very well, also this guy has a knack of getting his hands on the ball and pulling in a pick or two. Look for this guy to be a terrific match up with our own Brandin Cooks.
My final word on this game
I think a key factor in this game will be how the Lions offensive line copes with our pass rush. I just feel Donald and co will eat well this week and it could be a long day for Stafford and the Lions offence. The Lions will also want to try and establish a running game to try and limit the possessions our offence get, but overall I just see us having far too much on both sides of the ball for them. If I’m honest I don’t even think this one is going to be close, and if the Lions go down by a couple of scores early it could really be a long day for them. Anyway, the bit you’ve been waiting for…
My score prediction Rams to win 35-14….. And that is my two cents Ramily…
