Los Angeles Rams fans, it’s Super Bowl time!
Here’s the game preview folks, hope it gets you even more fired up for the biggest game of the season!
This year’s Super Bowl will see our Rams battling it out on February 3rd in Atlanta with the New England Patriots. Yes, our old Friends the Pats! What long term Rams fan can forget the heartbreak of Super Bowl XXXVI that’s (2002) for you and me, when we fought back from 17-3 down going into the 4th quarter and scored twice to tie the game late. Only to lose it to an Adam Vinatieri field goal as time expired. Interesting fact about that game is us Rams outgained the Patriots 427 to 267 in yards, but enough about the past let us fast forward seventeen years! The Patriots this season have looked dominant when they’ve had to but did have some ups and downs along the way, with losses to the Jags, Lions, Titans, Dolphins and Steelers. I think you’ll agree not the five strongest teams in the league but in the end, they won their division comfortably with an 11-5 record. The Patriots did finish the season with two wins and have looked strong in their two playoff games I’ve watched against the Chargers, and winning a close one in Arrowhead Stadium against the Chiefs last week… But onto this week’s game. You know some folks say the Patriots Dynasty started with that Super Bowl win in 2002, I don’t know about that but I do know Weeee’re Baaacckk! And this time we’re going to be HANDING OUT THE HEARTBREAK! WHAT SAY YOU RAMILY ????
Players to look out for in the Super Bowl
Tom Brady QB
What can I say about Tom Brady that’s not been said? Is he the G.O.A.T? The guy has five rings and at 41 he’s still playing at a Super Bowl level. The Patriots do have a running back by committee thing going just now, and maybe with this, they’re not asking him to do as much? Make no mistake though nobody can change a game like this guy.
Rob Gronkowski TE
For the last 9 seasons, this guy has been one of Brady’s best and favourite targets. Gronk has been the modern prototype of Tight Ends and with his height (6ft 6″) and power has been a mismatch for many defenders. Gronk has been double teamed most of his career so his stats in the passing game are even more impressive with this in mind. This year Gronk has played more of a blocking Tight End role but for anyone who saw him against the Chiefs last week he can still pull in a pass or two
Julian Edelman WR
After losing the entire 2017 season to an A.C.L. injury Edelman has recovered well and is again having a terrific season. Edelman has played some of his best stuff this year in the playoffs with over 150 yards and 9 receptions against the Chargers. Edelman isn’t the biggest receiver and plays mostly in the slot, but with his agility can turn on a dime which gives great separation. Edelman also has great hands and this is often Brady’s guy when he really needs a play.
Sony Michel RB
Michel was drafted by the Pats in the 2018 draft at the end of the first round, pick 31. Michel has had a good rookie season and has amassed nearly a thousand yards on the ground. The Patriots kind of have a running back by committee thing going, so expect to see other backs like J.White and R.Burkhead in the backfield. Michel will be the starting back and expect the Pats to run the ball early and often.
T.Flowers, L.Guy. A.Clayborn. D.Hightower. Are just some of the names that have stepped up recently for the Pats. Over the course of the season, they have played well as a unit with T. Flowers having 7.5 sacks on the season so far. Last week in the Championship game these two units helped shut out the Chiefs in the first half, they also had four sacks in the game and a number of hurries and QB hits.
Stephon Gilmore CB
In the last six seasons, Gilmore has grown into one of best cornerbacks in the league. Drafted by the Bills in the first round in 2012 (10th overall) Gilmore played four years with the Bills before moving to the Patriots in 2017. Gilmore helps anchor what is a very good secondary for the Pats and has just grown with defensive-minded coach Bill Belichick. Gilmore was also voted first team all pro this year.
My final word on the Super Bowl
This is just the most exciting time to be a Rams fan and what a great game I think this will be. All over the field, there will be great matchups and battles for us fans to enjoy. Early on, I think it will be important for our defence to contain the Pats running game and not allow them to establish this at any point. Also, I think Aaron Donald and co getting after Brady and affecting his rhythm will be important, as we do not want him getting comfy in the pocket. I’ve just got this feeling we’re going to see a lot more of our own Todd Gurley which will only spell good things for us Rams fans… Anyway, folks, that’s my Super Bowl two cents and as always thank you for taking the time to read it.
Score prediction for this one is (We got this!) Rams 31-21 Patriots
